A couple important Q's (to me anyway)

Just 2 questions for you all. They may seem stupid but they are somewhat important to me so your input is welcome

1) Is 1 1/2" too skinny for a port? it is 1 1/2" by 12" and makes my box tune to about 28 Htz... what i am wanting to know really is will i be able to hear 'whooshing' noises from the port or will it be ok?

2) which way do i want to face the box in my car? the vent and subs both face the same way so do i point them forwards or backwards? It is going into a trunk btw.

Thanks

1. That width should not matter. What does matter is the total port area relative to the volume of the enclosure. What is the NET internal volume of the ported box that you are referring to? Most recommend around 12-16 sq inches of port per cubic foot of NET volume.

2. Most trunk cars do best with the subs facing towards the rear end of the vehicle. Facing them forward usually gets you some cancellation, unless you seal the trunk off.

a general rule of thumb is a 8:1 ratio of height to width...

but then again i've seen JL boxes that have a 1.5 inch width and 16 inch height so who the hell knows...

well thanks. My vent is an 8:1 ratio so it'll work great then. And yes it is tuned properly. i cant remember my exact specs (sheet is in the shop) but i know its good for 28 Htz. And i seem to remember something about subs facing the back of the car. I'll try it both ways to see.
