99 Grand Marquis

I was wondering if 6.5 comps can just drop in the door of these cars? I saw a build log on here where someone was using 6.5s in their Grand Marquis' door, but I think maybe they made some sort of adaptor plate. Anyone know for sure?

I bought a kit from ebay for my '98 but I've yet to mount them up... guess I'll find out soon.

I believe they do just drop on in. If not just grab some spacers...

I was thinking about the spacers, but I think the stocks are 5x7, 7>6.5 so I didn't know exactly how that would work.

I have a set of those adapters at home now. They can and will work, however, they are quite thin. I would suggest if your going with those and a beefy driver to use (2) just to be safe. I could not use the midbass drivers that came with my RF Power comps with them, (they were 6.75s I believe) nor could I use my ID Oems with those brackets.

One suggestion, the stock 5x7/6x8 mount is just a plastic spacer that screws into the sheet metal of the doors. You could remove them all together and make your own spacer out of 3/4 MDF to fit your midbass driver in the same spot.

If I dont go with some kick panels pods im going to do the same thing, since my Crown Vic has the same opening.
