I used to always own Pioneer and never had a problem with them. The last Pioneer hu I owned was a DEH-8mp Premier. It was a good Hu until my car got broken into and all my phoenix gold xs equipment was stolen. Everything else was 8 years old and was worthless so good luck selling it aholes /rant. Sorry for that.
For some reason I wanted to switch and try Alpine. I never owned an Alpine hu and was interested to try one. I picked up a 9886 and wasnt to impressed with it at first. Once i figured out the the controls i started to like it better. I have it hooked up to an alpine MRP-F300 amp for my mids and a MTX 600XD for my subs.
I have Infinity 5 1/4" comps in the front and mb quart 6 X 8 in the back with MTX subs. Overall it sounds good, but the lack of EQ in the deck really hurts the SQ.
I had a Pioneer EQ6500 sitting in the garage so I hooked it up and it really helped out. I have the imprint system on order cause I wanted to try it out. Overall the deck looks very good but they could have added the equalizer built in instead of paying another $150 for the imprint system.
The funny thing when my stuff got stolen, I booked an appointment to get my alarm fixed cause it was so sensitive the alarm would go off all day and kill my battery.
But anyway good luck with your choice.
