♦PICS♦ tonight's drinking setup - Vodka, energy drinks & a cat...

IMO it's pointless to waste good quality vodka when your making mix drinks, trust me laste time I mixed with Greygoose, tastes teh same as the cheap stuff...

ding ding ding. most people who say they can taste the difference between vodkas in a mixed drink are full of shit. most people who say they can taste the difference are full of shit and most people who tell you can identify a vodka just by drinking it are completly full of shit. while they're not flat out lying... the truth is its mostly in their mind.

i can tell the difference.

i'm drunk too and it sucks.

i'm probably too drunk to drive and get food, and i'm too drunk to go to sleep. and i have no movies to watch. SUCKS.

i can identify grey goose any time i drink it because it's so distinct. i can identify any of the smirnoff flavored vodkas. i can do reg. rubinoff and any flavored rubinoff. i might be able to do reg. absolut and smirnoff. skkyy i can do.but i'm russian so i have an unfair advantage.

if you've drank enough vodka in your life you can tell a difference. it's really not a mental thing. if i can tell the difference, i'm sure there are people that can identify any kind of vodka or what have you. especially if they're not completely hammered.

I could tell the difference in SOME vodka's STRAIGHT when I bartended at Red Robin....when I started working at the nice italian restaurant I am at now, I had more access to nicer Vodka's (never even heard of Chopin before I worked there) and tasted a MILLION times more Martini's than I ever had in my life....After you drink ALOT of martini's (I drink the extra stuff after every martini I pour, if there is extra) you develop a palate for it....But I agree, most people are full of crap abouts some stuff...but alot of vodka's are distilled differently and some have flavor added to them (Goose being one of them)....

yes, grey goose is very distinct and it makes sense now. i used to work a lq store, but i never got access to the hard lqs because thats up front and tough to secure. although i have had my adventures lol. one time a guy walked in, grabbed the biggest bottle of henny we had, and walked out. HILARIOUS.

no, thats why there are people payed lots and lots of money to evaluate vodkas. and people like me were payed alot to get people to think they like whatever i want them to buy.

p.s. grey goose is a gimmick, its also one of the most bland vodkas out there.

People are paid to tell what they think tastes better...taste is subjective, like everything.....Goose is bland to some people while Absolute is the best you can buy to some people....

My favorite tequilla is NOT Patron....but rather Suaza's top shelf Tres Generatious or however you spell it......more $$ does not equal better but there is a difference in nearly every vodka you taste, regardless of what you think.....might as well say every whiskey tastes the same.

how would you compare the suazas vs cuervos?

vodkas like kettle one and tito's which are sometimes distilled in a pot still, yes its easy to tell the difference.

vodkas like belvedere, grey goose, Smirnoff etc. etc. etc. not so much. For the most part they use the same process and a mixture of the same ingredients. There aren't huge margins for error in distilling. the vodkas come out much the same.

One of the most amusing things i've found is giving someone a well or something like skyy and telling them its this that or the other. Then watching them make an *** out of themselves and talk about different aspects of this particular vodkas taste. Doctors are the worst about it.

If you're talking about the Suaza entry level, it's **** near close IMO....Suaza just isn't as much of a brand name as Jose. NO ONE buys Tres Generatious at my bar, even though I try to push it as much as possible but if someone HEARS Patron, regardless of their knowledge of any kind of tequilla, they think it's the best thing possible......marketing and public opinion DOES play a HUGE role in anything so I clearly see where Eugenics is coming from
