I was going to take my factory radio on my 1997 cadillac deville,, was told by different installers different solutions. one said might have to hook up the factory in the trunk,,, since computer is hooked up to factory radio... another said would just have to rewire all the speakers,,, and another said,,, even if you do these things,,, 97 deville's are known for the computer messing up after the aftermarket is installed?? any known solutions or facts about this issue?? thanx,, mel

You need a special harness to remove the radio and relocate it to another spot. The computer does route some things through it, so it is important to still have it connected.

Do you have a column shifter or a console shifter in your car?

You need the Metra GMOS-06 harness to safely relocate the stock radio.

the best way to do a front stage setup in the car that i have found out, is to just do kickpanels, you will have no use of your ebrake but it will result in better sound, but just eliminate the center channel speaker on the dash

I have a column gearshift. Does it take a professional install to install an aftermarket or is it simple enough DIY'er??
It's not simple, yet its not real hard. It's deffiently something your going to want to get help on though, if you've never done something like this before.
