800 mile trip=will my ca make it?

I'd try and get your fan fixed. Good idea would be to stop at some auto part stores along the way to let it cool. Also stop by the local autozone or parts store and get you a bottle of water wetter. I've used this stuff in all my cars, and test have shown in and out, it will lower tempatures. It's raining in allot of places tomm. so maby you will get even luckier and catch some cool air. That guy that posted above acted like he was wanting a ride to Al. also. Check him out, maby ya'll can split gas prices and you'll have someone to talk to. Always a good idea for 800 mile trip. :p

 
I took my 240sx on a 200 mile trip with no fan... wasnt too bad till I got caught in New Orleans traffic. Bad wreck + no fan = turn the car off and push it the couple feet we would move every 10 mins or so. Once it started moving again, I was off like a bandit. As long as you keep air moving over the radiator you're fine. Also, the fans dont come on after like 20mph //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

the ONLY purpose of the fan is to keep air flowing over the radiator in traffic or in city driving where you will sit at stop lights.

only problem i have is with the last bolded part. it depends on manufacturer, and also whether its an electrically driven fan or belt driven. if its electrically driven it will only turn on when the temp gets high enough, if its belt driven it always stays on.

to the OP: as long as you keep the car moving on the freeway you will be fine. if you hit traffic i suggest you find a spot to park it till traffic subsides.

 
yea that staement is incorrect, not every car is like that. My fan comes on when the ambient temp 60f or less and the coolant temp is more thand 100f my fan turns on to blow steam off of the radiator, that was built into the computer so people wouldnt bring their cars in for warranty thinking something was wrong. Also past 10psi of boost my fans turn on. Also fans turning on have nothing to do with mph.

 
take your thermastic out of the car you wont heat up then unless you set and run for a while had to do this on a trip from cal to back home in indy
i assume you mean thermostat, and the car will never go into closed loop and get like 8mpg, wont sole the problem of his car is going to overheat and pop a headgasket

i was thinking of suggesting that but then didnt because i dont know if he will be driving it at night and how cold it gets. you really want your engine to warm up at least a little. and having the coolant constantly going through the radiator makes the engine run pretty cool, so i cant imagine how cold that engine is really gonna be if hes driving 80 mph through 45F temps.

cold engines = bad gas mileage and a whole lot of extra wear on the engine. i had some specs a long time ago and ill try to find them but the difference in wear on the engine between one running at operating temp and one running cold is pretty severe. but yes, it will work in most cases.

 
ok well i made it. and i think the fan saved my engine. i had a radiator hose break and my car got really hot and broke down. i think that if i wouldnot have had the fan i would have blown a gasget or worse

you blew a hose, over heated the car, and think a fan saved your engine?

no fan is going to save your engine. this isnt a vw bug

assuming thats your car in your avatar...put some money into maintenance instead of the system and paint?
