8" and 10"

I hate to break it to you, but a larger, ported, enclosure will just about always outdo a smaller sealed enclosure, if we are talking about the same subs. You could always try the DD High Output ported enclosure that is .75 cubic feet net tuned between 36 and 40 Hz.

I ran a DD1010 in a 1 cubic foot net ported enclosure tuned to 35 Hz, and it did somewhat OK. I built a baffle to go over the 10" hole and threw a 1508 in the same enclosure, and wow, what a difference in sub bass output. The 1508 in the proper airspace performed MUCH better than the 1010 in an enclosure that was .5 cubic feet too small.

ETA: Won't the E8 perform well in a small ported enclosure?

I hate to break it to you, but this statement is a mild rule of thumb at best. I could tell you dozens of applications of speakers that like sealed boxes that just sound flat and floppy in ported ones. Take a Soundsplinter RL-S 12 or 15 and put it in a sealed box. Then go put it in a ported box. Let me know what happens //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Take the subs that the OP mentioned, then get back to me!

ETA:

I must have misunderstood the OP when he said:

I want a Sundown e8 or a DD1508 or DD1008A but those subs like ported boxes.
Then I was misunderstood when I typed:

if we are talking about the same subs

DC lvl 2 10 would sound good in a sealed box.
So would an RD classic 10 they have an fs of like 28 hz.
A low EBP (Fs/Qes) means it's good for a sealed box. The size of the Qes is far more important since it varies a lot more between different speakers than does Fs. That means that your DC should have an electrical Q of around .56 which frankly is pretty high for most car audio subwoofers.

Yeah, that' isn't what you said. You said given any given sub, ported > sealed in application. Not this very specific one. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'll let you have it that you mistyped or were ambiguous in what you said in that for the Sundown ones what you said apllies, but I don't want people thinking that sealed boxes are worthless like they seem to be thought of as on here. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Each enclosure has its place and it is all dependent on the driver one places in that enclosure. If the woofer was designed to be placed in a ported enclosure and one places it in a sealed enclosure, they will probably be disappointed. If the subwoofer was designed for a sealed enclosure and they go ported, they will probably blow the sub.

There is also the trick I am using in my fiancee's Mazda tribute. I have a Memphis 15-MS124D in a .625 cubic foot net sealed enclosure and it extends all the way down to 20 Hz thanks to a servo unit tied to her subwoofer amplifier. It may not have the 150 dB output in the 30 Hz range that most on this forum want, but, the goal for her vehicle was SQ, and she is happy with it!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I am just limited on room. I really want a DD 8" or a E8 but I dont know much about ports and I dont think I have the box area to put one in. Here is my space saving build.
