8" 3hp?

I've been seeing some 8" cones that seem like they would be up to task for a 3HP build. I was thinking of making a removable top for use on one of my motors, using oversized parts to allow for proper excursion. I want to have the meanest little 8" there is but I don't want to buy a Sundown or DD or DC, I want to build it myself. Would this be fun or am I being stupid?

Ive always thought that would be a cool idea. I have seen a custom 4" coil 10" sub on YouTube somewhere.

Yep, I hear ya. That's why I was going to get all stupid and build it like this but with a much meaner 8" cone assembly designed for a 3" coil.

actually if the basket is built correct and the corrugation/geometry can suffice for a god deal of throw.. no reason you can't use a 7.5" spiders and if you built them correctly you could get 3"s of throw..
