6x9's in box or no box

I have a VW scirocco, And where the back speakers are should I just put the 6x9's in the holes(whitch r smaller then 6x9's) or put them in a box back their?

just put in what will fit in there... you dont need anything special as far as speakers go in the rear. they are only for fill, not critical listening. besides, boxes look crappy just laying around!
