I bought a pair of Pioneer TS-G6844R speakers,(6" x 8"), to replace the 5" x 7" speakers in my '98 Ford Escort Wagon in the rear deck. I used Crutchfield's vehicle "fit" tool to see what would fit my vehicle and it said these would work. I found them cheaper somewhere else, but before I bought them I called their support line and asked if they would fit my car and they said they would fit too so I bought them. I received them in the mail and tried to install them and they will fit lengthwise but not crosswise, they are too wide!! I'm trying to get them to fit in the stock Ford rear deck grills, but the grills have 4 molded posts that stick down from the underside of the grills that you screw the speaker screws up into to attach them to the grills. I can get 2 of the screw posts to line up, but since the 6" x 8" speakers are wider the other 2 Ford grills posts line up with the cloth surround on the new speakers and not the screw holes. I can cut those posts off, drill new holes and make it work, but I would much rather get an adapter plate that will allow these to install without having to "butcher" them up.
Does someone make this kind of adapter?
Thanks,
Snyde
