6.5 vs 5.5 components

I want to get the Focal 165KF 6.5's but the dealer says that only the 5.5's will fit in my Ford Explorer. He says that the power ratings are the same and I should not notice a difference. I currently have Boston Pro 60's in there. Opinions? What am a losing with the 5's?

6.5's will fit just fine....very slight modification...and build a simple 1/4 inch MDF plate...Your dealer is just trying to get rid of something he has sitting on his shelf....If you already have boston pro 6's in your door that in it self should tell you the dealer is an idiot...

My Grand Prix has stock 5.25s in the door but after taking the door skin off I realized that a 6.5 will fit easily as long as my depth isn't too deep.

I have a 96 explorer, and i bought a adapter for 6.5's, and they fit perfect. Now i need to learn were I can hang/hide the crossover for my comps!!!

Probably something like this;

But given they are usually made of flimsy plastic, you are better off building one yourself out of MDF.

you will be able to fit the 6.5" in, you will need to cut a bit but it is well worth the effort. You will have a much better midbass and mid from the 6.5" version of that comp.
