Hey guys, first off I would like to say hello to everyone and im new to the forum as you can tell, I would like to get your opinion on these:

http://cgi.ebay.com/CHEST-POUNDING-Hard-Hitting-6-5-Inch-Subwoofer-PAIR_W0QQitemZ5862747259QQcategoryZ18805QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Yeah I know the title of the auction is retarted and you might be thinking "wth is this guy thinking?"

Let me explain, everyone at my school thinks just because you get some expensive speakers you can be so loud and blah blah blah so I wanted to show them up with a pair (or 4) 6.5" subs, I wanted to get input to see what yall thought of these or if you knew another place that sold some decent(lol), cheep 6.5" subwoofers..

Thanks for your time

-Justin

the surface area and displacement of 6.5s simply does not compare to a 12

area = 3.14®^2

1 6.5 = 3.14 (3.25)^2

1 6.5 = 33.16"^2

1 12 = 3.14 (6)^2

1 12 = 113.04"^2

1 15= 3.14 (7.5)^2

1 15= 176.63"^2

you would need over 4 6.5" subs to compare to the surface area of 1 12, and we arent even considering displacement. Not to mention 6.5s have a very hard time extending low frequencies.

well figure in retards at school thinking just because they got a high $ speaker and a crappy box with a crappy amp thinking they got anything, not trying to be rude im just saying

I think you have your work cut out for you if you are trying to beat a standard 12 with 6.5"s. you would have to really get creative on the enclosure. Transmission lines, horns, ABC chambers and the like come to mind. You couldn't do it with just a solid ported enclosure, especially with your experience.

Either way, you can't top those tang bands, so pick up 4 or 6 of them, and have fun. Even if you don't beat the kid (Trust me, idiot's luck and car audio go hand in hand in my experience) then you still have a unique and nice sounding system.

If he's looking at Pyramid, money must be very relevant.
lol, na I just looked real fast on ebay and couldnt find any small subs I dont want to spend like a grand on this setup so I was asking if anyone had any better ideas thats all.. so since a few of you think think this is out of my league, what would be a better way to show him up?

JL Audio 6W0
Hahaha. True, but then they get into that "It's because it's JL, and we all know JL is -the- best out there."

I stick with the recommendation of the Tang Bands, however the 8" version might work better. The RE8 would also be a good choice.

true true but they are some beastly little things. i loved the one's i had but really had no place to put em.

haha those 6w0's are .. how do I say this without sounding gay.. haha cute, anyway yeah I am thinking the whole 6 idea is just crazy I was throwing together some box plans and it just seemed crazy, maybe with a little bit more experience I could but ill come up with something later. thanks for all you guys help

Most Home Theatre setups actually have very small drivers. Some of them will have 3 6" speakers or such in a ported enclosure that actually sounds very good. My Creative 5.1 set for my computer's sub was actually really nice. Sounded great and hit hard, I open it up. It's a 5 1/4" speaker mounted in a ported enclosure!
