I've been browsing for some 6.5's for my Mercury Cougar. The slots are 6x8 but I've been convinced that the 6.5's + adapter combos the way to go but now I feel as if starting from scratch at this point. Any suggestions? The speakers above are some that I have been considering. I'd rather the tweeter on top of the speaker insted a exteneral but I'm open to anything. Also I do plan to amp these speakers, along with a sub (or two) of a 500watt amp perhaps(?) if that helps. Any thoughts please post. Thanks

Yes -- most 6.5s will fit with the standard (Scosche?) adaptors. I know the Kappas will (I had them -- wouldn't recommend them). However, some 6.5s have a larger cutout. I recently had to cut my own adaptors out of 1/2" mdf in order to fit some Arc 6.5s (they were quite larger than the Krappas).

I just went to a hardware store and found some thin wood that dosent split easy and made the brackets to fit my 6x8 speaker fitting. I then cut out my 6.5 cutout and popped the speaker in.

Dont know if oyu are interested in a brand new set of rockford fosgate 6.5 components they are still sealed/never been used these include plastic adapter plates that rockford sent along with them. they can be trimmed to fit using needle nose pliers(the plastic is labeled in different sizesand can be trimmed to fit your needs)They call it the multi OEm adapter

I'm sayin, I don't have anything to cut out the 6.5 cutout or to make it fit my 6x8 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I'd be all for it if I already had what I needed to make it.

do you have a jigsaw, 6.5" speaker, and 6x8 factory speaker? if so you can do this. real simple.

Everything but the jigsaw. I'll have to ask around, see if I can get some help from a friend I suppose...

..pulling together a respectable car audio system is becoming a lot harder then I imagined it would be..
