5/8 MDF for XXX

I went to home depot and they said they don't carry 3/4 mdf anymore so I bought the 5/8. my box has a small depth about 8 inside and 9 1/4 outside the box and 33 by 30 for the front and back,it's about 3.8-4 cu ft but I havent calculated it yet.

but thats not my question my question is that will my box flex if I have my sub pushing alot of spl(1500 watts)I also made 4 braces inside the box so it wouldn't flex,it's strong enough for me to stand on top of it

I haven't tested it out because I didn't make the speaker cut out.

if anybody reccomends me to rebuild an enclosure please tell me where to buy 1" or 3/4 mdf at. Thanks

i wouldnt suggest using that with a XXX...return it if possible. you will get flex especially if you are using it for SPL purposes.

to get 1" or 3/4" look in the yellow pages under "lumber" and there will be plenty of places that carry it near you...i hate how my home depot only carries 5/8" also...grrrrrr.

Glue 2 sheets of 1/2 inch MDF together and get a one ince sheet. Problem solved. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

that's some pretty fuzzy math right there...1/2"+1/2"=1/2"?
yo no comprendo.

Penchy typo... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

let's say I wire my sub to 4 ohms and my amp will push 500w rms, will the enclosure bust even at half volume,I'm not going to be entering any spl comps I mainly bought it because it's a loud sub and sounds very warm at the same time.by the way my enclosure is pretty sturdy

Well, it shouldn't just break or snap in half, but it can flex and sound like shit....I say use it and see what happens. Worst case, you have to build a new one...
Yeah, that's what I'd do. If it sounds like crap and flex's ... then either build yourself a new one or add another layer of 5/8" material //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Alot of people use 5/8 to build boxes, if it is braced right it will be fine. I ran a box that was 5/8 on alot of subs. If you want to be safe, fiberglass resin the joints and you cant break it then.
