Morel maximo coaxs are 2.2" deep. I haven't heard them personally, but people rave about them.

i have a set of infinity 52.9i that are just over 2" of mounting depth. $45 shipped. both have grills that if you remove the grille and use just the mount that you'll be under 2" of mounting depth
