Alright guys. Putting in 4 6-1/2 inch speakers in my Civic (thats what fits). Ready for a really nice sound system that can play all genres: rock, rap, death metal, dubstep, jazz, you name it.

Keep in mind I have 5.1 rca output that will go into some amps then to the speakers. I want the speakers powered by amps. I want name brand quality sound that will impress my friends and make our ears very happy :)

I want to be able to blare my music loud and proud with no distortion and good bass etc.. I have the sub for now which will be replaced once I get this part of the audio system done. Still debating how I am going to do the center speaker. I am lost when it comes to this stuff so I really need some suggestions.

My budget: $400 for 5 powered 6.5" speakers. I would like to pay less but I am lenient. I don't want to waste my money I want to go big or go home.

Thanks.

if you really want it to sound good look into time alignment and how to properly stage your speakers (ie proper placement) Next step would be to put a good amount of power to them with a good clean amp.

MB Quart Q4.150 (Q4150) Q-Series 4-Channel Car Amplifier

hook them up to this with the gains all the way down.

Amazon.com: Kenwood Excelon KDC-X794 In-Dash CD MP3 WMA Receiver with Remote: Electronics

this deck has some amazing features for the price. you wont be sorry really, I think you can find it for like 150 if you hunt around actually.

get some sound deadener and seal up your doors and patch up the rattles/resonating plastic/metal elsewhere.

Elemental Designs: Car Stereo, Home Speakers, Electronics

12sq feet should be about enough for your doors to start

Thats pretty well what i would start with.

After that i would do my big three, grab a decent extra agm battery, some 1/0 to run to the back and get a nice solid 1500rms amp and power a pair of 8s or single 12.

google around for the big three, also read up at bcae1.com. knowledge is power. I can tell you what to buy all day but it wont mean crap if you dunno how to install it.

really?

From the outside looking in he just doesnt want garbage. He doesnt know about internet brands. But in his defense, have you ever eaten a Twonkie?

As for the impressing friends thing, I think thats part of everyone's drive for audio. The majority of guys here will tell you they love demoing and seeing other cars get demoed. Its always about showing off. Besides, its always nice to put 6months into building a good stereo and then get a "****, that sounds awesome!" when youre done.

To be honest the Honda Civic doesn't have enough interior room for a 5.1 setup to sound like a 5.1 setup, plus the people sitting in the back will hear a lot more surround channel information than the people in the front so the soundstage & listening position is all wrong... imagine setting up a home theater system in your bathroom with the toilet as the sweet spot and you'll get an idea.

The automotive environment is terrible for surround sound and you can only set up time delay and individual volume level trim for a sweet spot for one person and not everyone in the car, so while you may get good surround effect in the driver's seat everyone else won't. My old boss has an Audison DSP processor and he showed me the difference between setting up time delay for his seat versus the passenger seat, his surround sound sounded like a normal 2 channel setup when he had the listening position set to his seat and not mine.

What I'm trying to say is surround sound in a car is more or less pointless because even the best car theater system can't come anywhere close to a proper home theater system in a house in terms of surround sound effect, correct imaging and clarity.

Spend your money on good componets ,sub and amps and forget about the 5.1 . You can impress your friends with some kick A** componets and really good sub.In the end it will sound better than 5 cheap speakers. On your budget you cant afford that many speakers that will be good quality anyways.

Wow I doubt I could afford to even power 4 15s lol

If I'm not doing the 5.1 could I still use the 5.1 outputs but just not use the center output or would that make it sound odd because it is missing the center channel?
