4Awg 120A or 125A or,

Just a question about 4awg wire. Have to ask this before I do install. I finally got the 4awg KOL Amp Kit from KnuKon.

On their box, or somewhere with the amp kit it says the wire is good up to 120A, or something to that effect.

But on bcae1 they say 125A, and I've even heard 4awg should be safe up to 150A.

But, back to the point.

I have a 120A fuse that came with Kit and I bought a 125A fuse also.

The amp doesn't have any fuses in it so I was going to fuse the 120A by the Amp and the 125A by the battery. Would that be ok even though KnuKon says it's only good up to 120A?

Sorry if that's a noob question, but I have to know for piece of mind.

fuse the amp for what its reccomended, and just use the fuse that came with the kit by the battery... its really not gonna matter if u use a 120 or 125 amp fuse, both will blow if theres a problem

Well it's a 1500W RMS amp, so I figured 120A should be enough. But was told to put a Fuse alittle bit bigger by the battery. And since I read it went to 125A I bought one, then I received kit and it said only good for 120A. So I wasn't sure. But if it's not much of a difference I'll just rig it up like I was planning.

Your fuse at the battery should be sized for the CABLE, not the amp. Put a fuse that will protect the cable from overheating and burning down your car. That is the function of the power fuse at the battery, not to protect the amp.

4 AWG with standard PVC insulation is actually good to 135 amps, so your 125a fuse is fine. Realize with 4AWG @ 125a, if your cable length from the battery to the amp is, say, 12 feet, you will have a voltage drop in the cable of about 0.75 volts, which will cause your amp to draw even more current.

I'd put a fuse at the battery/cable and at the amp itself just to be extra safe.

125a is sufficient. If the OP wants to protect the amp, they should get a fused distribution block and fuse for the amp there.
