They're completely arbitrary. Change them to $2 and $3 for all I care. The point is, which you ignored, that government spending doesn't burden the average person; it benefits them. It even benefits the people at the top, despite the fact they're taxed the most. For example, where would Steve Jobs or Bill Gates be without a middle class, supported by their tax dollars, that has enough disposable income to buy their products? And also, completely contrary to what you say the Republicans are "about", taxes have gone UP on people with the lowest income and DOWN on the people with the most. What do you think about that?

Plus it's illogical. Just because you give someone money doesn't mean they're going to spend it on what you want them to spend it on. Give rich people tax breaks doesn't give them a REASON to hire more people.
