400rms amp to a 500rms sub ok?

I am having a problem finding a 12" sub to run on my memphis belle amp. It running 400 rms @ 1 0hm. I want a sub that I can run in as small as enclosure as possible (around 1cf). I was looking at the Alpine type-R's, but they are 500 rms dual 2 ohm. Can I get away with this or is it going to sound like shit? Would a ported box sound better w/ the wattage than a sealed would? Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks guys.

If you can wire the sub at 1 ohm then yeah thats fine I think right? If anything its probably better to underpower the sub then over power it.

And I would go ported

Thanks man, with a ported box can I get away with going with a smaller ported? They say the recomended ported size is .75-2.0. Does is matter if its on cloers to the 1.0 than the 2.0 cf in size?

I mean its still in the range they recomend so I am sure it will be fine

Their power handling is 400 watts RMS. I have in a ported box and I love it.

I heard the Type R subs are very good to, not sure which is better

it is ok to overpower a sub, as long as it is clean power...just for future reference
