400-500 watts to work with

It seems that most subs are made to handle either 300 watts and lower or 1000 watts and above. I have 400 rated watts by bridging two channels of a Mcintosh amp; the real power is probably closer to 500. I'm looking for an SQL sub that will hit hard when need be. I listen to every genre of music so I also don't know whether to go with a 12 or 15. I do know that with that amount a power a ported box would probably be better. Do anyone have suggestions as to what sub would work best?

Well, if it is at 4ohms, you can get an older Tempest for probably less than $100. They require a lot of space but work very well with low power and they can get loud as well. Work with the boxes and you may be able to get something that suits every genre. My box was tuned to 25Hz and was geared a little more towards rap but Adire assured me they worked great with every type of music.

95Honda just finished selling four Tempests in really good shape over on SIN for $75 apiece //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Sold out now, though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

ufck!

*cough*2ohmdvc or 8ohmdvc*cough*
You okay there? Need some water, perhaps another smoke. Maybe you shouldn't hit it so hard next time around. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Thanks for the correction; that's probably going to be helpful. Doesn't that also narrow the choices down a bit though?

Yes it does, it narrows it down quite a bit. There are not many subs out there that come in dual 8ohm.

I know it won't make a difference in SQ but is there any other reason to go with one or the other (8 ohm dvc vs. 2 ohm dvc)? Is it okay to wire to one coil of a 4 ohm dvc sub or would I get better performance wiring to both coils of an 8 or 2? Adire has the Koda at dual 8 ohm but it's $329.99 msrp; that's just a **** lot of money. Is it worth it? Other suggestions?
