I have been noticing that car audio speakers are really cheap in comparison to home, so I am interested in trying to make a pair of speakers to use in my room. I want a Loud (but still sound decent) system, but don't have a lot of money to spend. I am looking for something that will be able to hold 400-500 watts RMS (per speaker) at 16 ohms (amp runs 500 watts (actually closer to 350-400 though) per channel at 8-16 ohms). I am also looking to keep the price around 100 dollars per speaker and I am planning on making two speakers. I will construct the box myself for them. What I am currently planning on doing is purchasing 8 pairs of Legacy LS6942BD speakers and putting 4 pair in each box run in series to boost the impedence to 32 ohms and assuming that the RMS on these speakers is 200 watts (half the peack) which I will hopefully know for sure soon(contacted customer support) that would give me an equivalent value to my 400-500 watts RMS @16 ohms. I was wondering if anyone knew the quality of these speakers or had a better suggestion for what I could get for around this much money. I realize that I don't have much to work with and for that, any help will be greatly appreciated. I may be able to up the price slightly but I'm not counting on it right now. Thanks for any help you can give me.
