4 volt preout?

what is the differance between a 4, 5, or 6 volt preouts. I know that some HU do not have any number on there preouts. So my question is do I have to have the higher output preouts or not. Is there a disadvantage or an advantage to haveing the higher preouts. I have noticed that the more expensive HU have the higher preouts. Thanks for any info.

having higher output preouts means, you can use less gain on your amp, and therefore (theoretically) reduce noise, but that's not always the case. go to the following link for a better explanation:
