I would put money down on the 8's sounding better, hitting the lows better and also sounding cleaner.

we need more information then given, car type, power supplied, musical preference, goal.

The sa's do have the potential to get louder if everything is taken out of the equation though.

ok i have civic hatchback. stetsom 2k6d amp would be runnin the sa 8s. also have a c&d 147ah bat in the back with stock bat in front with stock alt.. i havent build the box yet. i know im goin to turn the 8s to 38hz tho

Why run sq woofers and tune to 38 if u wanna tune that high just go kicker cheaper for u

Quite a bit more cone area on the two 12's...

I don't think either setup is gonna be too happy on that much power though.

pft not really, granted there square so theres a bit extra on them but 2 round 8s is just barely under a round 12. So i wouldnt say quite a bit

But the L5 blowz butt, my 10 honestly didnt get louder then my mtx round 10. Go SA8 for sure, or a pair SSA DCON/ Incriminator 187s 12s. They would get down on 800rms

Roughly 288 sq. inches on the L5 12's vs. 201 sq. inches on 4-8's... It would take more than 5 round 8's to equal that.

Probably greater excursion capability on the 8's though... close the gap a bit..

Either way - 3k of power is still gonna be too much for either setup for prolonged playing.

4 sa-8s, especially the V2 will be fine on the 2500 rms (before rise) that that stetsom will kick out...
