4 channle amp into a pair of comps...

is it possible, and not retarded to put a 4 channle amp into 1 set of comps. What i mean is, 2 channles into the tweeters, and 2 channles into the mids.

like i could put the rear chans into the crossover points for the tweeters and the 2 front channles into the crossover to my mids.

am i making sense lol

Yes, this is quite common. It's what's meant by "going active." You either use an outboard crossover, or the crossovers on an amp, to parse out the signals. The advantage is that you can set the points/slopes yourself depending on install.
