Generally, what will be better for spl purposes. Same speaker, different size

The 4-10's have twice the motors and thice the coils for more efficiency, but the 15's have an edge in surface area around 10% more.

Does cone area play that big a role, or would the additional motors and coils trump the increase in cone area?

it really depends on what youre looking for and i would go for the 15's , the 15's depending on what kind will hit harder and cone surface iis important for me because i drive a van and need to move as much air as possible thats why i bought square subwoofers

I think it depends on the power on hand. Whatever you run, I would run it within a reasonable range of the RMS. Whether that be 4 10's or 2 15's depends on the sub.

Thanks for the replies.

To me, the 4 10's qould have the motor advantage (each motor only has to move 100 sq. inches of air instead of 225), but more cone area is also a factor...Has anyone tried both and directly compared?
