4 10's 3 12's or 2 15's

I have about 1400rms to work with. Right now I'm running a dc audio lvl 4 15.

Would it be better to stick with one 15 at 1krms or go with more subs at lower rms ratings? I'm looking to be more louder with the power I'm running. I've built 4 boxes for this dc. It kicks hard, screams lows.

I've heard things about cone area and such with more subs. Would I even notice a difference really?

Well you have a good vehicle and space to work with but theres alot of things to consider to make a good decision here.

How much time and money do you want to invest on an enclosure?

And the things youve heard about cone area and extra motors(2 vs 1 sub) do play a factor if your looking for strait spl... altho 2 10" sonys obviously wont play louder than ur DC because theres more cone area and an extra motor.

Do you just want it loud as possible off that amp, or do you still want solid lows and decent sound quality?

And depending on your budget, 1400watts RMS can definately run 3-4 decent 12s that would be stupid loud in there.

I'm looking for good lows and some sq. I prob got about ~13cuft to work with. Seats down atleast 17-18cuft.

I'm going to build the box for it, so thats not an issue. Put the budget up around 700$.

Basically, I'm just wondering if I can get louder with 3 - 4 12's off the same power of the single 15 im running.

i'd say so, if you can utilize all 1400w and double your cone area you'll certainly notice it. I had four 10's last year and am debating the exact same thing as you - two 15's or three 12's.....

Take the SD of the woofers you have in mind and mulitply with the xmax both ways. SDx(2)XMAX. This will give you a good idea of what will outperform a different setup.

An example would be:

8w3v3-4 = 24.015

13w3v3-4= 126.697

It would take (21) 8w3v3-4 504.315 woofers to equal same air movement as (4) 13w3v3-4 woofers 506.788.

Hope this helps.

4 high excursion 10's should do the trick. More motor force and it dissipates the heat better. Hit up David with PSI or Scott Sackett on CACO. David could build you some nice high excursion platform 1 10's

Wasn't this theory of your proven irrelevant in a previous thread?
