4-10"s vs 2-18"s?

Not a pro here but would a box with 4-10" Arc audio subs hit as hard as a box with 2 18" subs, given the same power? My convertible just doesn't have the space I don't believe to put big subs. I have considered trading up to the 12" flatline subs and more power, but they are very expensive and require a boatload of power. I am very concerned with SQ, yet I want it to take your head off also. Needless to say in a convertible, it takes ALOT more bass to actually move you woth the top down on the highway.

Well, I realize a convertible isn't a good candidate for great audio, but since that's all I drive, I want it to do as well as possible. I can't immagine 4 of the ARC 12" flatline subs with boatloads of power not getting loud?

Well, I was thinking maybe 4 Arc flatline 12"s and the se4000 amp. I love my 10"s because they are very musical, but I also want it to rip your head off. I DO NOT listen to rap, but rock and metal.
