Oh yea? I always thought that when people shoot for higher spl ratings they tuned lower... My polk DB212-2 box is supposivly tunred around 50-60hz so the guy on the phone says and i get devastating "high" notes but on songs like soul survivor its like where did my subs go?

There's a big difference between SPL and a daily driver. SPL boxes are usually designed to peak at a certain frequency. Tune low for daily so that your sub will be able to better play more frequencies and have to play less below tuning.

People are way too general when they say, "tune high for spl; tune low for flat response" because this statement is way too misleading and usually wrong.

A lower tuned enclosure may not be as flat and it will also be louder at different frequencies. It may not have as high as a peak as a higher tuned enclosure but it can still be louder over a different range of frequencies.
