After seeing others build 3D drawings I thought I would do the same.

This will be my next project after buildings a box for a friend.

I have built alot of boxes some single chamber some shared... What do you guys think. Should I keep it like this or redesign to have both drivers share the volume?

I have always built boxes with 2 chambers only because I started building with sealed enclosures. Basically if designed and wired right there is no difference.

what would be the pros, or cons, of keeping the chambers seperate? other than 1 vs. 2 ports... is there really an difference?
*curious*
You get the structural benefit of having a 3/4 inch wall in the middle of your box, which is a good thing. Assuming your single port box is supported well enough there should be no real difference.

There aren't any inherent advantages really. I personally prefer to use a single chamber for a few reasons though:

1. You can give your drivers more airspace for the given external dimensions because you don't have to make the port area wider (you're cutting it down the middle with a panel which means that you are making each chamber smaller by increasing the port width)

2. Easier to make, and thus, less opportunity for error

Many people say to use dual chambers because if you blow one sub then you're not feeding the other one more power in more airspace. While that is true, if you are in a dual chamber, you're still feeding it 2x the power so instead of reaching both mechanical and thermal failure, you're reaching just thermal failure. Either way, it's done for.

This drawing was done in Google Sketchup... but there are several trial software from major 3d rendering programs. Try ProE they have a 60 day trial of their latest sketching program.

Thats 3.25 cu/ft per chamber, this is the max spec right off kickers website. Also, when I do calculations based on the TS parameters I get ~3.10 @ 33.25 Hz... so I would say I'm pretty close.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Hi there
Looks good. What program did u use? And is it free. Google sketchup is not 2000 compatible. Cant wait to move to XP at the office!
I'm using Win 2000 Pro and sketchup works for me, granted I'm not that good at operating the program yet but it works as well as I can tell on my machine. I have version 5.0.305

And what exactly are these calculations you are referring to? Because that's still on the large side, although just under maximum recommended size.

Actually I have found best results using 2.5 cu ft. plus port for the Solo Baric woofers which comes out to 2.82 cu ft per chamber. It gives you a good spl and actually sounds decent.
I just built an enclosure for a 12L7 two days ago at 2.6 per side @ 33, and it flat out slammed.

The TS calculations are those that I have out of a subwoofer box design book.

The 3.23 cu/ft is rigth off kickers site for the l5..

I have a box right now that is a single sub 32hz @3.25 and it is extermely loud and deep.
