..

I made the thread about the smoke coming from my sub. I think it may have been my wire burning up. I pulled the wiring out of that sub today and most of the strands were missing, 2 strands were left, and the rubber on the wire in that sub looked greenish compared to it's normal clear, I stopped my car and turned everything off about 3 minutes after that smell started. I just hooked up both subs and tested them, I turned the gain down to about half compared to the old 3/4 and they both sounded great, no locking, no smell, no smoke. My dad keeps saying it was dust because we were working on my box with the subs sitting on the ground collecting saw dust and dust(I hadn't had them hooked up until 4 weeks after I bought them) I blew the subs out today with my air compressor(light pressure), a crap load of dust came out.It smelt like your house does when you start your furnace for the first time in months. .I have no experience with subs blowing, I don't know the exact symptoms or anything. Just LMK what you guys think. I don't know if either of my hypothesis are correct/logical, but I wan't to know if I should be worried.

Thanks to anyone who can help me,

Itsbmw.

the smell that you noticed was most likely the coil on the sub heating up. if it was saw dust then it would have smelled like wood burning or something simailer.

if you have a dmm(meter)test the restiance of the coils and see if they are close to each other.

imo, the sub that was smoking is most likely not going to last much longer.
