Front usually results in less "boomier", tighter sounding bass, and facing back results in the bass being louder to the ear.

i think the best option would be to face them towards the front of the car... but completely seal off your trunk space.
if this is a option for you this is best for trunks

It is usually louder in a trunk car with the subs firing to the rear, unless you do like mentioned and seal off your trunk and fire them forward.
if not do it like this
