$32-n-some change 12" eXcelon subwoofer

Like it or loathe it cosmetics but certainly they don't look like anything else that's out currently! (or when they were new for that matter)

Actually not a poorly built driver for its pricepoint back when it was new. (These were either the model-year 2000 or 2001's eXcelon subwoofer offering. Available only in SVC 4 Ohm trim, either 10s or 12s - two whole models to pick from. These were what Kenwood was selling immediately prior to the "tornado"-coned subs)

Spiral-vented pole piece, woven tinsel leads... not that lead-slap was ever going to be an issue for these... and some decent terminals offering multiple connection methods.

I reckon it was worth the $32-n-some change/shipped I paid for it, eh?

I'd buy 4 sets at that price.

No - the ones in the background are the 10s I bought new back in late '01.

The single 12" sub in the foreground is what I paid $32+ for just this week.

There was a shop selling them back in the day and it turns out that they are actually pretty good subs. I got to listen to them and they sounded real good for the price tag. Everyone was scared to buy them since they were Kenwood but they are actually good woofers. I am located in Pensacola, and they were good enough for Roy Jones Jr. to put a wall of them in the BodyHeadBangerz van.

Obviously I don't have the twelve in an enclosure yet so all I've done with it is play it free-air for a couple of moments to verify operational condition so I could let my seller know it had arrived in good order.

The 10s, however, I ran for a couple of years off of various amps.

They're only rated for 200w RMS each but the pair seemed to like being fed with 600w just fine and sounded pretty durn good for a pair of cheap 10s sealed. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif
