your also not suposed to rip people off as thats against their tos but they dont enforce that rule... in reality they cant legally dictate what services you charge for and dont charge for.... everyone knows paypal is one of the biggest scams out there... its only a matter of time before they have a shit load of class action casses against them for the bullshit they pull...

For you others why don't you just say the shipped price is XX if you use paypal and XX if paying by money order? then you have established the end price.. By the way some people can't do math and then you have no way of getting that extra money because you can't tell paypal that the person didn't cover your fees. this really is a moot point... if a seller doesnt feel they want to pay the 3% for paypal, then they probably wont. they will either ask u to add 3%... or up their asking price. either way u still have to pay a little more.

I personally think it's retarded to make people pay the 3%. All it does is piss me off, and I'm more likely NOT to buy from you. Especially if it's an 'optional' purchase. I've seen people charging 'PayPal' fees up to 5%, which is BS, trying to squeeze that fee in later without telling you, etc. It's just... g a y.
When I sell anything, I just figure that fee into my asking price. Same as Egay auction fees, packing materials, etc. Some people ***** about how on high-dollar items that 3% can really add up. Yeah? So you're gonna tell you me you'd potentially give up a $1000 sale over $20-30? Not me.
I negotiated a deal here for an amp from a guy... he whined about how he was losing his *** on PayPal fees, shipping, etc... so he asked if I'd pay the PayPal fees, which I figured up, and accepted. This is in public, in his thread. He then PM'd me and later tried to get me to add shipping on TOP of it. AFTER I accepted HIS offer! I told him I was no longer interested and moved on. He PM'd me back, taking it back, saying he'd stick to the original deal. I told him no thanks and kept going. He's STILL trying to sell that amp. I'd love to have it, it's the ONE amp I've found that would really suit my needs and fits into my budget. But... once I found out what kinda guy he was, whining over $10-20 on a relatively large purchase, I decided I didn't wanna do business with that kinda guy.
Then I did some research here on his amp, and found out he paid less than HALF his asking price for the thing and came on here bragging about how good of a deal he got! lol And he's whining over a few bucks?
Sometimes I WILL pay the fee, but if I'm waffling on a purchase, I likely won't just because in my mind, it's one strike against the seller.
My $0.02, and I know alot of people disagree. I lived outside the US for several years and most places charged us to use our CCs, that extra 3%... saw some with a flat rate for any purchase (often came up higher than 3%), or as high as 5%. Those merchants didn't usually get my business, if I could help it. It's part of the cost of doing business, folks. If you don't like it, then take only cash, checks, or MOs.... I won't buy ANYTHING that way. I'm sure many others feel the same.

If you are going to try and charge your buyer the extra 3%, especially for a non-eBay transaction, then just include it in your selling price. Don't try to tack on an extra 3% after you sell it!
If it's an eBay transaction, then sellers usually just add an extra amount to the shipping price (but smart sellers kniw that they get more bids with lower shipping).
On eBay, you'll get more bids, and effectively a higher sale price if you are not a jackass about Paypal fees/high shipping costs to cover Paypal fees.

I always thought the high shipping fee was to reduce the listing fee.
It's for both. Well, for ALL the fees they have. Overhead, packing materials (this shit is HIGH), PayPal and Egay fees, etc. Many times I've paid more in shipping fees than I did for the actual item.
