Actually, an odd number of subs, if they are SVC, will create an odd impedance (ohm load), as he stated, and cause some complexity in matching up proper amplification that still gets full potential out of the amplifier. You might nnot call this 'hurting' anything, or may be referring to DVC subs which would multiply the coil quantity by 2, thereby making the number of coils even again, but the thought behind nickolas' post is quite correct.
