2ohms on a bridged 2ch amp

im not new to car audio and i KNOW that you can put a 2ohm load on a 2ch amp bridged. BUT let me give a scenario here.

300watt amp bridged at 4 ohms

300watt dual voice coil sub with dual 4ohm coils

now this amp puts out 300watt on 4 ohms and in therie the power should double into 2ohms. but lets say u crank down the GAIN down. whould it not put out "300" watts on a 2ohm load with the gain tuned down.

do ya guys folow me here????

and dont tell me u cant put a 2ohm load on a non 2ohm stable amp. im not trying to get 600watts outt the amp on 2ohms. just 300 watts

haha, I hate to say it, but n2's got a point there, you NEVER want to put a 2ohm Mono load on a 2 channel amp... even if the gain is turned down..

2 ohm mono is for a MONO SUB amp, 4 ohm mono is for 2 channel sub amp... your config, I say run 4 ohm stereo and be SAFE... you'll get good power, if it's a good amp

Most, but not all, 2 channel amps are not stable into 2ohm bridged.

Which means you'll either have a paper weight or an amp that constantly kicks into protection.

I had an optidrive 200.2 that had no problem doing it too. Still, if it had let the white ghost out it would have been my own fault.

Some amps will do it ok, some won't. You just have to realize you're taking an obvious risk of damaging your equipment if you try it.
