2ohms ampli power for 4ohms speakers

I'm a newbie in car setup. Is it possible to feed my infinity reference components and alpine type-s coax with 2ohms from the amplifier eventhough they're rated at 4ohms?

I'm not sure if I stated my question correctly... but my installer had advised me to use my single 4-channel amplifier to power my comps and coax with channels 1 and 2 (@ 2ohms each) and a 12" sub with channels 2 and 3.

Will this be all right?

yeah it should be okay if you wire your front comps and rear coaxes down to a 2ohm load. some of the infinity speakers/comps are 2ohm i think but dont quote me on that. the only problem you should worry about is not being able to use the fade if you need to.

I think likely what your "installer" suggested would be to run your comps and coaxials together off of channels 1 and 2 and bridge channels 3 & 4 to run the sub?

As already stated, yes, assuming that your comps and coaxials are all 4 Ohms nominally they can be wired parallel in pairs to show two of your amp's channels a 2 Ohm load if you choose to go that route. But you'll completely eliminate the possibility of fadar functionality and consequently ruin any proper imaging...but if you choose to run it that way you can...

is it a problem for some amps to do that tri-mode thing? or is it okay for most amps? i've seen it as a feature on certain amps but i wasn't sure if all amps could support that or not. maybe prowler can chime in:)

Most (if not all) tri-way capable amps require an external adapter to utilize that particular feature.

I've never run one that way personally so I cannot directly comment on the end results of doing so being good or bad.
