22 year old Kenwood amp KAC-646X going strong until......

It appears there is an issue somewhere and not sure if the amp is failing or there is an earth issue.

Whether I switch the kenwood mini EQ (also 22 years old!) on or off the issue is the same.

The volume coming through the speakers is very low compared to previously. The amp becomes extremely hot and when it gets like that (quickly) the sounds starts cutting out and noticed the red light flashes when it does that. If i keep the volume very low it does not flash or cut out, but is quite hot to the touch.

I'm not sure if this could be an earthing issue? - I need to remove all the back seats as I think it was earthed somewhere under it. Not sure if I can run an additional wire from the earthing amp connector temporarily to test it?..That's if it sounds like a possible earth issue.

Any ideas are welcome please.

Sounds like the internal capacitors are dying mate, may need to be replaced, I suggest you stop using the amp for your safety and use a temporary amp until you get that checked out. It is not a good sign when the volume decreases and the amp goes hot, something has failed internally over time and its usually the capacitors holding charge.
