Well I just finished the 98 Mustang work log, and then immediately got a new vehicle... lol bye bye Mustang.

So thus starts the WRX work log. This is gonna be over the next few weeks, so no extraordinary progress between pics. But here you go:

P/S, this is also gonna be my daily driven work vehicle, so nothing crazy is going to happen in here. No walls or crazy fiberglass, just trying for a good clean system, on a car with not a lot of info yet.

Still trying to figure if I want to use the factory radio and a fancy hi/low converter (to maintain the 6 disk changer and save some money, or install a nice nav unit.

OK, for the rear speakers, take out a screw in the handle area where you pull the door shut, pop that piece straight up evenly (not up and out like previous model year, broke my first tab on first piece:verymad: ) This reveals two more screws, remove them. Then inside the handle to open the door there is one screw, remove it. In the corner there is a piece of black plastic trim (little triangle on the door.) Pull it straight out and twist slightly to the front as it comes out. Then starting at the bottom, pull the door straight out to pop out the little plastic compression fasteners. At the top of the doors, there is no fasteners, when it feels like just the top 1/4 is still being held in, slide the door straight up along the path of the window and pull the panel off.

The factory speakers are retained by a plastic shroud and three screws, remove the whole thing by taking out the three screws. In the rear, 6 1/2s fit perfect in the door, and the window doesn't get in the way at all, so just drill holes in the door for the screws and directly mount the speakers.

FRONT SPEAKERS on the other hand are a different story. The Infinities I put in the front are not that deep, and still hit the glass. Also, the factory speaker holders position the speaker too close to the doors, and the tweeters push against the grill in the door, so I made my own adapters, though I think if you buy the ones for last year, they probably still fit. Since this actually required some handy-work, here are the quick adapters I made.

If you notice the two screws just to the left of the wood, they hold in the crossovers. I installed all 4 crossovers in the same fashion in each door.

In the front the speaker wire is outside the door, so I had to drill a small hole to run the speaker wire through to the crossover, and secured the wire to the bracket. In the rear its all internal, and no where near moving parts, so no worries.

SPECIAL THANKS!!!! To Manny at T-Rex Car Audio. Even when I was offering to pay for it, he encurged me to "just go for it man" and though I broke one tab, still not going to hold it against him ;-) Great guy and thanks for the help.

Well I usually turn this into a paint layout so it all looks neat, but today I really didn't care. you get the idea here, its just not as pretty. All the wood is cut, should have some pics of the build later today or tomorrow.

yeah, the L7s from the stang. I know I know.. its a bit small and not alot of port area, but still need useable space in the back. if it sounds like poop, easy enough to cutout a peice big enough to cover port and turn this into a 3.6ish sealed enclosure
