2005 Ford Focus Radio mutes when lights on

I have a 2005 Ford Focus with a stock radio. The radio works fine but when I turn the headlights on the radio mutes. Turn the headlights off the radio works. Checked loose connections and fuses. Could it be the battery saving relay or any ideas.

did it do this from the factory, or you messed with something?

did someone rewire the harness?

sounds like the face plate dimmer wire is crossed with a telephone mute wire.

The only thing I did was to remove the radio to get a cd that was stuck. I then pushed the stock harness back in and tried to check for anything loose. No luck. As I mentioned lights on radio mutes. Lights off radio unmutes.

head units have a feature where by you turn the lights on, then the head unit dims the face plate, so its not too bright at night.

head units also have a feature whereby you answer your phone and the head unit mutes the sound.

sounds to me like these two features are cross wired.
