2005 Dodge Ram Quad Cab Build Log

yea, a rolling tool, the end of a screwdriver, a wooden dowel, LOL, about anything that i could find
Nice. I just use my hands and make sure i have on gloves, it seems to do the job. I just need to quit being lazy so I can do my front doors in my 6. The rear doors finally have that solid thud feeling.

im going to begin to tackle the rear doors today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

so today i decided to attempt to tackle the rear doors and deaden them. i got so frustrated with the limited space i had to work with and the millions of cuts to my fingers from the foil, but i managed to get them done after a few beers and some metallica

got the front doors deadened today, and got the speaker wire ran through the molex connectors in the back door. i read a lot of horror stories on dodge forums of people spending up to 2 hours on this, but it took me about 10 minutes per side, if anyone has a ram and wants tips oh how i did it just ask...

didnt get anything done yesterday, the weather turned sour on me, but today i managed to get the new wires ran to the crossovers for the components and mount the crossovers. i mounted them under the kickpanel on both sides of the vehicle, and yes i did test fit the kicks to make sure they fit. and one more post til 3000! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif

for some reason i didnt take pictures of the HU installed or the front comps installed, i will try to get some tomorrow when its not dark

got some tweeter pods modded up and installed today, i figure some of you would like to know how to make these(all the parts including paint can be had for ~$15 at home depot. they look great, make minimal damage to the a-pillar as opposed to fiberglassing and are adjustable after install.

first, find a pvc end cap that your tweeter fits pretty well into(mine is a 1.5")

P1010400.jpg

next, determine the angle you want the pods to be at in the end and drill a hole into the side at that angle

P1010401.jpg

you will need some "steel nipples" from home depot or lowes that are basically small steel threaded pipes that are hollow in the middle to allow cord(usually lamp cord on a lamp) to pass through. thread it into the hole that you drilled on the side of the end cap

P1010402.jpg

you will also want some paint. i found a textured paint at home depot(rustoleum) that matches the a-pillars pretty well so i went with that.

P1010403.jpg

now take the threaded pipe and thread it into a hole you will need to drill in your a-pillar(i used locking hex nuts on the back to tighten the pod to the pillar)

P1010404.jpg

next test fit your tweeters, if they are slightly too small like mine were, i wrapped duct tape around the tweeters housing to make it fit snugly into the pod

P1010406.jpg

finally, install and enjoy your work! looks very good and very clean, all four about 2 hours and 15 bucks.

Looking good! I installed the components a while back in the back of mine but I didn't take any pictures. I'll be taking pics when I have it apart again for the Damplifier.

But I did get the sub box about 80% complete last night. I decided to go fiberglass and MDF under the back seat. It's been a real pain in the *** but it's coming together.

Did the 6.5" fit in the rear door without mods? I want a second set of components in the rear doors but I don't want to get into a mod-fest while I am still dealing with the sub box and other BS.

cool, cant wait to see pics. as far as the 6.5s go, they went in the rear doors fairly easily. i used 1/2 mdf and made a ring spacer the same outside diameter of the speaker. the only mod i had to do was, on my particualr 6.5s( ID OEMs), the basket was too big to fit into the opening for the factory 5.25, so i took some tin snips and had to snip and fold the hole out a little bit so it could sit all the way down.

Not a bad idea on the tweeter pods, makes for easy imaging adjustments, I personally like the way my stage is with the tweets on the door, ps, I told you to wear gloves for the second skin lol

yea, haha, unfortunately im hard headed and didnt listen until it was FAR too late:crazy://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I mounted my tweeters in the provided angled pods below and forward of the speakers. It's not the perfect location but I did it because I want this install to be as invisible as possible. I work for a non-profit and I have to park in the worst area of Salinas, Ca, so I don't want it to be obvious.

My box should be done this week if I don't get to tied up with the BBQ I am hosting for my car club.

I have the new adaptors done for the components for the front doors, I needed to move them down about 1.5" so that they were firing out the door in the right spot.

I'll get some pics when it's back at the house. Too bad you are in Nashville and not Knoxville, I will be there next month to see a friend and would love to check out your install in person.

WOW! I love the idea for the tweeter pods! I been in here fifteen minutes and already learned some great stuff.

I have a 2005 quad cab(with much less skill and luck I'm afraid) that I'm modifying slightly. My tweeters were installed on the door posts in that wide area directly in front of the window. I think your setup is gonna look much better and project better too!
