2005 Cavalier Stereo Installation

About half a year ago I installed an aftermarket stereo in my 2005 Cavalier. I used the Scosche GM2000 wiring adapter with the interface that allows the car to retain the warning beeps for when lights and keys are left on/in. A couple of days after that the dome light came on and stayed on 24/7. My fix was to remove the bulb. A month are so later I replaced the bulb and everything worked normally for about a month and then the light came back on 24/7 again. The bulb has been removed ever since. Today I had an alarm/auto start/auto door lock system installed in the car and was told by the installer that the alarm for the doors could not be activated due to the problem associated with the stereo and dome light.

Any suggestion on how to proceed to fix the dome light issue? Is it possible that the GM2000 is defective?

I would look into the dm light switch and the door switches first.

Get the light to come back on, then check each door contact switch.

You may also try pulling the radio fuse in the fuse panel. If that works, then you know.

note that you bought a $30 adapter that retains chimes. that's not the same as a $120 adapter that retains EVERYTHING.

The GMOS-01 is the correct Class II DataBus interface.

The following are usually lost without the correct interface:

Displays current settingsOil life monitor reset

Tire inflation monitor reset

Delayed headlamp illumination

Automatic door lock and unlock

Remote visual/audible verification of remote lock/unlock

Enable/Disable content theft

Enable/Disable trunk lock shock sensor

Short or long horn with remote lock/unlock

Key fob transmitter programming

The radio is used as a control panel to communicate with the vehicles computer for the customization of certain “convenience features”. All features work and remain at current settings with the factory radio removed, but can only be customized and/or reset by an authorized service center. More important than the above features and chime, there is no switched 12vlt. power supplied in the radios plug, so it will need to be sourced somewhere else such as the factory fuse panel. A 10A to 30A fused accessory power source is recommended. Depending on the vehicle there are several choices in the factory fuse panel, such as the sunroof or windshield wipers.
It is certainly possible the issue is due to a bad door switch or a shorted dome light. they can fail. the door switch triggers ground and the dome light is hot all of the time. so a grounded wire (inadvertent) can cause the dome light to stay on, and hinder functionality of the alarm.

Thanks for all of your guys advice. Unfortunately I am in Japan and the car is in Florida. I will have the wife or a friend try the radio fuse and see what happens. I think I may have tried all of that a half a year ago, but I have replaced two other stereos since so my memory is jumbled now. I went to Walmart and bought what I needed to install the stereo (Scosche GM2000) harness. I had no idea that there were higher grade modules or that it really made that much difference. My car has zero fancy options so the module doesn't do much more that door chimes. I am leaning towards the dimmer switch and/or shorted light myself. I had the dash apart during the stereo installation and the dome light has worked from time to time as it is supposed to. It is frustration that I can do most anything mechanical, but electrical gives me fits sometimes. My cars from the 60's and 70's were so much easier to work on.
