2003 Ford F350 Super Duty OEM Radio Removal

I am wanting to remove the OEM Radio / 6 Disc CD Player in my 2003 Ford F350 truck. The cd portion does not work. I purchased a removal tool from a local auto parts store and the tool will not stay in place or "click". I asked my neighbor who has replaced many car stereos and he said the clips that hold the radio in place must be broken and that is why the removal tool will not work.

Does anyone have any options on how to remove the radio? I thought about prying the faceplate off and going from there but not sure if that will cause further damage.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Mark

i have only seen the clips your neighbor is talking about, broken once and that car had that radio removed several times and the car was beat to $hit. if you can't use the ford removal tools, you need to just **** it up and pay your local shop.

Put the tools in and spread them both outwards, as you pull. You have to do it simultaneously. Once you get the lip of the radio beyond the dash trim, then you can grab it with your hands and pull it out. You can also remove the dash trim that surrounds the radio. I'd suggest picking up a set of plastic trim removers from your local auto parts store. You will need them again eventually anyways, especially if you're running wire in the truck.
