2002 Porsche 911 Targa

Im installing a new headunit in a 2002 Porsche 911 It has a Harman head unit with Bose. Installing the deck was straight forward; power, ground and switched all right there. Bypassed the Bose amp for the door speakers which all read at 2.6ohms and ran directly into the head unit as per the customers request.

I then pulled the factory Bose amp for the sub(seperate amp--found right above spare tire in trunk). Two sets of wires going to the amp are playing the factory subs--problem being they both rest at 1 ohm. So I added just a small amp and ran them in series--hence it should increase the ohm load over 2 ohms. WRONG! It drops to .4 ohms. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to wire the factory sub up to increase the ohm load so that the amp wont end up overheating and shutting down? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Im stuck here till its done!

Exactly, it doesnt make sense. Parallel should drop it not series-ing it, right? Someone suggested from another shop in town that maybe there are caps in line which could potentially increase it, even if it is in series. I have the dash half tore apart and still cant locate the factory sub--not sure how to get the darn thing out so I could just wire straight to the factory subs.

2 1-ohms in series should acheive 2 ohms--im getting .4 ohms

2 1-ohms in parallel should acheive .5 ohms--this does happen when I run them in parallel

Wrong, Wiring them in series is dropping it down

Dual 1 OHM in series will Cut it down to .5, Follow direction's in link. Sub is a Dual 1 and you can wire it at 2 Ohm's. Just take the 4 wires you Have and do it with them.

You do not HAVE to use the sub itself to do so.

So basically take the positive of one coil and the negative from the other and wire them together. And than the remaing to WIll go to the amp Which will be one + from Coil one, And NEG from coil 2.

IIRC it should be built in behind the seat, where back seats would be. Show me a pic of what that looks like. It doesn't have a little PORT that says BOSE behind the passenger seat?

Found it... it sounded like it was in the dash venting downward... it turns out it is the carpeted area in the passenger ****** hump kick...its not a ****** hump there its just a carpeted sub enclosure venting into the dash. I had to go back to an 'ol Audi A8L trick--find the hidden screws in the carpet... turns out they are T-25 torques toward the "firewall" in the carpet then you have to peel back the edge of the carpet at the center console to reveal the other T25.

Oddly enough, its only a single 4x6 speaker with only 2 wires entering the enclosure at 1 ohm. not sure why two seperate sets of wires would play and test in the trunk and only one set here. Guess ill just pull out the 4x6 and slap in an aftermarket to get the right ohm load eh? Does anyone make a bass-y 4x6 anymore??? haha

Are you sure there is not a second one? I am almost certain there is....Could be wrong though.

And I guess I am thinking of a NON TARGA. Cuz I know for sure that the last one I messed with has the box behind the seats. And had a smal port that had BOSE label on it, Right behind the passenger seat. And it sounded great!

Have fun with the install, although I am sure you already are! They are tricky little Bishes.

Only one, the other side alots for more driver foot space by the gas pedal. If there is another one God only knows where they put it. Theres not much room in this bugger. I think you are right on the the non Targas that they have a similar setup to the AMG55s of about the same year. This one rails--especially at one ohm! haha Anyone know of a small 10-20watt one ohm stable amp? lol Just playing. Thank you for all of your suggestions!!!
