2002 Monte carlo ss headunit help

first off hello. I want to introduce myself and my situation. My names john im 17 in high school. my dads giving me his 2002 monte carlo SS. been using it for some time and the whole system is bad: bass is super low quality, cant here any mids/ highs well, and the headunit wont let me put an ipod in. So to first off i want a new headunit. An alpine CDE-141 seems like a good choice with features i like. With that i need a harness to wire it, here comes my problems. This car had the Onstar system so i need a 100$ harness + another 60 wiring kit to keep my steering wheel controls! these are alll i could find...

The Metra GMOS-04 on installer.com but it says that this kit "The GMOS-04 will also retain the retained accessory power convenience features." what does that mean? does this mean i dont need the separate steering wheel control wiring? ... i believe its the Metra aswc-1 . Any links to cheaper alternatives would be awesome!
