2001 Taurus...worth replacing the speakers?

I'm trying to get the best sound I can out of my 2001 fors Taurus. It isn't easilt customizable, but it can be done. I bought a JVC headunit (on clearance for $40, normally $200) and got some Pioneer 6x8 3-way speakers. I hooked one of the new speakers up to my buddy's car just to see what it would sound like and it actually seems worse than my current stock spearkers. Is there a reason for this? Or are the stock speakers I have just better than I thought?

I have a 99 Taurus and in my particular car the stock speakers were horrible. Not just in the way they sounded either. Not even the least bit good for stock. It's funny because I actually have pioneer 6x8's up front now and although they don't sound the greatest they are leaps and bounds above the stock speakers. Maybe somebody already replaced them in your car?

It is possible, I suppose. I got the car from my Uncle a few years ago. Maybe I should just crack it open and see what I have right now.
if you just had the speakers free airing when you tried them out in your buddies car, you probably wont really like the lower end response of them.
