2001 Mercury Cougar question

I just bought a 2001 Mercury Cougar. I hear the alternator is weak on these cars. Would it be a bad idea to hook up a 1600 watt system?

i had a 2000 with about 1200 watts and two compressors for the air ride. with all that i didn't have any problems.
