$200 amp installation?

i dunno man, you should give your self a chance, a big part of car audio for me is the install, I came on this forum clueless, I just has spent around 250$ for a amp kit instal, and i was ripped of , they used shitty wire and just were sloppy. I did my research here, and read a lot of threads, eventually I did my own 1/0 install, put in a second batt, did the big three, built my own enclosure, installed a HU and fronts and rears, ect....im still really new, but I feel very confident that I can do anything with the help from this forum. its been a lot of fun working on my build, and it could be for you to....

research everything and ask questions you have before you jump into anything

good luck and keep us up to date with your build

Couldn't agree more.

Just take your time and don't rush an install. Plan it out. Keeping the stock headunit isn't a problem, you just have to buy a line-out converter.

Thanks. I'll do that.

one more thing. I'll be running two SA-8 subs. They are rated at 400RMS.

Spec wise, what should i be looking for in an amp?

Im considering a SAE-1000d. what do you guys think?

thanks

SA-8's are under rated. They can take a decent bit more than rated power in a correct box. The amps your considering are also under rated. Id take the Cadence A7HC. Its a great amp and built like a tank. Solid old school goodness.

I looked into that link, and saw that it was an egay auction from a seller with 32 feedback. granted its 100% but i'd rather buy from a reputable seller

have you had personal experience with this amp?

If he has 100% on 32 different buys and sells I doubt hed scam. People scam here with less transactions. The A7 HC is a great amp. You can do a search here and find loads of info.

Could you or someone else explain to me the difference between the D2 and the D4 option on the SA-8? Ive searched and got this:

Output should be extremely close at a given power... the D2 has a higher motor force factor but the D4 has a lower moving mass. Should pretty well level out in the end.
To explain further... the D2 has "fatter" wire to lower the resistance so therefore is wider in the gap -- meaning more wire is contained within the gap, this increases the L factor of BL. This thicker wire is also heavier.

Since the D4 has "skinnier" wire it has less L but also less mass from the thinner wire.

Pick the coil based on the amp you plan to use.
if i got the A7 HC, which would I get? here are the specs of each:

Dual-4 SA-8 Specs:

RE: 6.08 ohms

Fs: 44.66 Hz

Qes: 0.594

Qms: 6.337

Qts: 0.545

Le: 4.26 mH

VAS: 4.44 L

BL: 21.20 N/A

Cms: 80.8 uM/N

Mms: 157 g

Sens: 80.06 @ 1w/1m

BL^2/RE: 73.92

Dual 2

RE: 3.28 ohms (series)

FS: 41.6 Hz

Qes: 0.513

Qms: 6.606

Qts: 0.476

Le: 2.778 mH

Vas: 3.285 L

BL: 17.138 N/A

Cms: 83.341 um/N

Mms: 175.654 g

Sens: 78.476 dB @ 1w/1m

POWER: 400 RMS

Get a pair of the dual 4-ohm subs - that way, you can present what ever amplifier you choose with an overall load of 1ohm, which is what you want in this situation. Spec wise, the audible differences are pretty much negligible - you will find that is the case with most dual 2/dual 4 ohm versions of any subwoofer. On paper, the numbers are different, but if you were able to actually HEAR the difference between the dual 2 and dual 4 version of the same sub on the same amount of power, I'd be pretty amazed.

For wiring diagrams, check out the12volt.com; Car Alarm, Car Stereo, Mobile Video, and Cruise Control Info for Installers.

Here are two D4 subwoofers wired to a 1 ohm load.

If you're really worried about the ebay item, the Sundown you mentioned is also a very good amplifier. Although there most likely wouldn't be a problem with the ebay seller.

What are the calculations that you did to find out that the overall load is 1 ohm?

edit: nm, i thought the picture above was in the member's sig //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I've already tried to contact the ebay seller to see additional pictures and whether he is willing to take it off auction to settle for a price.

just throwing another option out there....

MB quart discus series is really popular on this forum right now, and I personally owned the DSC 2000.1 and was really happy with her, she pushed hard. if your on a bit of a budget like me, i suggest you buy duo 4ohm subs and pick up the DSC 1500.1D amp, wire to 1 ohm, and that should push the SA subs nicely.
