I'm putting together custom door panels for my 97 Pathfinder. Since I am making them myself I will have no trouble fitting in a 3 way component set. I want a SQ system and I already have the sub for the deep bass. Question is this: Would I be better off buying a nice:

3-way component set such as the Alpine SPX-F17T (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/caraudio/product.asp?sku=11745)

Or a 2 way set and then adding a good midbass driver such as a 6 3/4" kicker RMB6 (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/caraudio/product.asp?sku=12138)?

Here is what I'm thinking: If I were to buy the 3-way set I think it would have to be powered by a 2 channel amp and I would lose some control because of this. However, I think I would gain some control by buying the 2 way set plus a good midbass driver and power it with a 4 channel amp because I could set the midbass as my rear speaker so I would be able to fade it in or out on my alpine head unit. Of course in option 2 I would set the x-over on the amp for midbass to ~80-275Hz and the 2 way components to 275-20khz. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

PS: I got the idea from here: http://www.peelautoradio.com/gallery1.html Sweet!

well, this is my opinion, and i know that it varies from person to person but i feel that if you get the three ways, you get more wave frequencies covered, like an even high to mid. but you sacrifice power because you're splitting it three ways. with the 2 ways you get less frequency coverage but more power to go through the two speakers. someone help me out here if ive got these things mixed up cause im a little rusty.

one more question might let me decide easier. IF u don't get the alpine 3 way...what 2 way comp set would u get?? (which 2 way comp set would you add the mid-bass to?)

i personally believe that a three way set like that is overkill. You can still get all the frequencies out of a two-way set, and i would actually think that it might be easier to get it to sound better for a begginer(sp?) because you have less speakers to equalize, plus the three-way costs more. I say go with a two-way unless you have the money to spend on a good three-way set.
