2 RE 8's or 1 SE 12?

Which would be better for me 2 RE 8's or 1 SE 12? Either selection would be put in a ported box most likely. Right now I have 1 Type R 10. I want more SPL, but I still want good SQ. I listen to a lot of hard rock, classic rock, and old skool punk, but I like to slip in a Snoop Dogg or DMX Cd every once in a while to bump.

I have a honda civic and trunk space is important to me (gotta be able to get the golf clubs in there //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif ). My friend also has a honda civic also with an L7 and a 1.75 cube ported box and thats about as big as I can go, which is why I was looking at an SE (1.8 cubes ported). I was going to go with a SE, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about RE 8's, plus you can get them really cheap off the classifieds. Which would be better in my situation?

Depends on the price range you wanna go with and the size box. I love my 8's, right now I have 2 RE8's in a 1cube box tuned to 27Hz. I have 2 others on the way also. These 8's dont need a lot of room, probally .55cuft at the most, and are very cheap to come by. So far, on average I have mannaged to get these for $35shipped. The SE12 is what, $170+shipping? So go for the amount of space you wanna take up and the price you wanna spend. Both should work fine in your situation...

Okay say I go with the 2 RE 8's and give the 200 RMS each in a ported box. How much increase in output would they have over my sealed Type R 10"? Just curious if it is worth the upgrade.

Well the 2 RE8's would have more cone area then the single 10", porting them will also give them more of an output. FYI, the RE8's really dont like more then 150watts...

Hey Woodmister, where are you getting RE8s for $35 shipped. I'll order today at that price.

Me likey SE

And woodmister, cut it out. We all know your 8's are weak //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif (little inside joke going here)

I have a 10" SE in ~1.5 cubes tuned to 35 hz, and it's totally decimated my old system( 2 10" MTX 4000s). It actually sounds pretty good too.

EDIT: Oh, and my SE ran me $165 SHIPPED.

well he said he wanted a 12" SE. and just cuz 2 8's has more cone area doesnt mean it will be louder. Or sound as good. Or hit as deep. Or hit as low.

Go with the 12. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/driving.gif.c4dead4599dda895032b63e51f52b126.gif

I emailed RE and they have a dealer about an hour drive away. I think I'm going to go there and listen to the SE and the RE's. See which would better suite my taste. Right now i'm leaning towards the 8's, but I'll just have to wait and see.
