2 L7 15's vs. 1 RE MT 18"

Which would be louder? going into an explorer..both with optimal boxes. both on around 2200rms. need to make a decision sometime soon..

2200 rms is too much for the l7s....

Most people will probably tell you the 18 would be louder. But science proves them wrong. Your pushing the same wattage either way.

With an 18" Circular sub, you are gonna be moving ~254 sq. in. of air. With 2 15" squares, your gonna be moving 450 sq. in. of air, almost twice as much.

So.... you can either have 2200 pushin 254 or 2200 pushin 450. Id go with the 450. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

But lower the wattage to 1500-2000.

Do you mean 2200w for both L7's, like 1100 a piece? Either way, a single 15L7 will take 2200w. But to answer the question the 2 15's should be louder. If possible I would put 2000w to each L7. That would wang nicely.

no unfortunatly i dont have 4000rms. well actually i have around 5000rms but i dont have anywhere near enough electrical done to back that up. ill probably do 1000rms to each L7 if i go that way.

1000w on each will sound real loud. If you can1500w on each that would be better. But I dont think you'll wont be disappointed either way.
No. 1000 watts MAX for RMS to each L7. Anything more and you will have to worry about being easy on it. Id actually reccomend 750-900 watts RMS Each. (like get a 1500.1 or a 1800.1 would be best) because if you sit over 1000 watts to each woofer your gonna have to worry about playin too loud or if your hurting them. But with 750-900 each, you can wang-out with confidence. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Also... 1500 - 2000 watts on each? Thats far too much! thats 150% - 2x of the RMS...where are you getting these numbers from?

"A single l7 will take 2200 watts"

Psh. this guy is crazy.

i'd just do the two l7's and run the hk4000 @ 2 ohms. you'll have more than enough power on tap and won't have to worry about clipping... well at least hopefully.

just be careful tho... if your running over rms you need to keep a your nose on the woofers.

I have no reason to dispute this with you, Its plain and simple. If you're not a complete idiot and clip it to death, A L7 will take 2000w of clean power. 1500w is ideal and it will take it all day long. Do a little research. Hell, you even own one and yet you still dont know the product very well.

I dont think a single can take 2k+ for very long, but they can handle more than 1000wrms daily,I've had 02 L5 15s taken 1k each.

The HK is 2 ohm stable and will put out 3-3.6k on 14 volts...but IT A CURRENT HOG.Sell the hk and pick up a kicker or orion 2500 if u dont plan on using that amp to FULL potential.

why would i go through all the hassle of selling it and buying a new amp if i could just turn down the gains....? and i believe theyll have to be wired to 1 ohm.
